Red Herring is a computer game which supports pupils studying French or German. Although it is designed to support pupils at Key Stage 3 in England and S1/2 in Scotland, Red Herring can be enjoyed by secondary school pupils at any age or stage. Game Overview: The aim of the game is to solve a murder by: Interviewing computer-animated characters who respond in spoken French or German Playing enjoyable vocabulary games to uncover forensic evidence Solving language puzzles to reveal the identity of the murderer and the motive Completing special tasks linked to language and European culture Red Herring makes learning Modern Languages an enjoyable experience for pupils. Interacting with the different animated characters in the town will improve listening and comprehension skills, whilst the problem solving activities within the murder investigation will reinforce and extend vocabulary. Adopting the role of police detective, players will quickly become absorbed by the strange goings on in the town. Piece by piece, they will assemble the clues that make up the murder mystery jigsaw until the whole picture is revealed and the culprit identified. Red Herring has an in-built translation facility so pupils are able to enjoy the game regardless of their level of ability in French or German.
